Africa’s Eden Tourism, in partnership with Sigma International, is launching a Regional Tourism Business & Community Support Pilot Programme designed to strengthen tourism-linked enterprises, support community initiatives and build stronger tourism supply chains across the Africa’s Eden region.
The programme will officially launch during the Africa’s Eden Travel Show – Africa Edition from 29 March – 1 April 2026, positioned within the KAZA Tourism Ecosystem within the Africa’s Eden Network.
The initiative adapts the proven SATSA Tourism Business Incubator methodology, which has supported more than 120 tourism-linked enterprises in South Africa, and contextualises it for the Africa’s Eden regional tourism ecosystem.
By combining enterprise development, mentorship and market-access support, the programme aims to strengthen local supply chains while ensuring communities benefit more directly from tourism growth.
The programme connects tourism operators with local enterprises through a structured and practical support model.
This model ensures meaningful enterprise support while strengthening local tourism supply chains across the Africa’s Eden region.
Tourism operators across the region increasingly face expectations to demonstrate responsible tourism practices, local procurement and supply chain inclusion, and stronger community partnerships. At the same time, many tourism ecosystems face structural challenges such as underdeveloped local supply chains, community initiatives lacking business support, and limited access to markets for small enterprises. The Africa’s Eden – Sigma International programme provides a practical solution, helping small enterprises and community initiatives become viable participants within tourism value chains.
The programme seeks to establish a replicable regional model for tourism-driven economic development, where:
Tourism growth supports community livelihoods
Local supply chains are strengthened
Community enterprises participate in tourism value chains
Tourism operators benefit from stronger local partnerships
Through this model, the programme aims to demonstrate how tourism can become a powerful platform for inclusive economic development across Africa’s Eden destinations.
The pilot programme is positioned within the KAZA Tourism Ecosystem within the Africa’s Eden Network, with scalability across the broader Africa’s Eden region. This positioning reflects an ecosystem-first approach that strengthens tourism-linked enterprises, community participation and regional supply chains.
This positioning supports the pilot by strengthening:
The pilot programme will support 12 selected beneficiaries during the first cycle. Beneficiaries will represent three key categories within the tourism ecosystem. Priority will be given to Africa’s Eden members, supply chain partners and affiliated community enterprises.
Businesses providing goods and services used by tourism operators, including:
Community initiatives with strong potential for social and economic impact, including:
Businesses that support environmental sustainability within tourism ecosystems. Examples include:
Sigma International will utilise its ISO 9001:2015-aligned monitoring systems to track programme impact.
Priority will be given to Africa’s Eden members, supply chain partners and affiliated community enterprises.
Tourism operators may sponsor one enterprise within the programme through the USD 7,500 investment model.
Members may nominate enterprises, community initiatives or sustainability projects within their tourism ecosystem.
Tourism operators may offer procurement opportunities or pilot partnerships with supported enterprises.
Members may participate as mentors, advisors or ecosystem connectors.
Built for the Africa’s Eden ecosystem, by Africa’s Eden partners.
The pilot programme operates through a collaborative sponsorship model.
Rather than direct grant funding, this model enables tourism businesses to co-invest in structured enterprise development support, ensuring beneficiaries receive mentorship, diagnostics, market access and impact monitoring.
Sponsors benefit from measurable outcomes, structured reporting and stronger integration into local tourism supply chains.
